Change Your WordPress Permalink Structure
One of the first things I do when I set up a new site for clients is to change their WordPress Permalink Structure.
It’s good for search engine optimization (SEO).
How do you change your WordPress Permalink Structure?
It’s easy now with the release of WordPress 3.3, simply to go to Settings -> Permalinks and select Post name.
Why do you want to do this?
For starters, it removes the dates in your permalink structure and unless you are a news organization, most of your content is likely to be “timeless”. By removing the dates in your permalinks, the search engine results will not appear “dated” on older posts.
Think about that for a minute… when you search for a topic online, you want fresh, relevant content, right? People are simply not as likely to click on a result that they think may be outdated even though that post may have the answer or information that they’re looking for!
